Exhibition 2013 - Sydney Metropolitan Art (SMART) Gallery

In West and Central Africa, masks are very present. Having spent part of her life in those areas of the continent, Zabilou is very sensitive there.

The topic of her new body of work, the mask symbolises human beings and animals, incarnates the forefathers and inspires feelings such as beauty, fear, calm and serenity. As an art that makes invisible feelings visible, the creation of masks enables Zabilou to express her vision of life and cultures in a completely new way.
